A sunshine for Sunshine

     Sunshine is my OT therapist.  I've been working with her since March 7th - right after my 1st surgery.  I ♥  Sunshine!  She is so caring and yet pushy (because all therapists need to do a little pushing).  She has done such a great job.  I am having another surgery next Wednesday.  I will continue to work with Sunshine until I finally get the word from my doctor.

     4 months of working with Sunshine has built such a relationship.  When you work as much with someone as I have with her, you can't help but to build a bond.  Without her, my finger would not be as far as it is.  This being said, when I found out her birthday was earlier this month, I knew I HAD to make something for her.

     I made her this super cute Post-It note holder.  I CASEd it from Angie Kennedy Juda.  I also CASEd the sunshine from a photo I saw on Pinterest.  I have no idea who's original idea it is, nor if I made it the same way, but I did figure out a way to make it.

TUTORIAL: sunshine

Punch 2 circles from the 1-3/4" punch.  Punch 16 banners from the banner punch.  I sponged one circle and all of the banner pieces.  I sponged the 8 back banner pieces using a slightly darker color than the front banner pieces.  Adhere 8 banner pieces to the back on the sponged circle - spreading them out.  Attach dimensionals (cut in half) to the bottom of the remaining 8 banner pieces and attach to the back on the circle with the banner pieces already attached - offsetting them from the first ones you did, so you can see them in-between.  Attach the second circle to the back to cover everything up and to give you something to adhere the sun down.

     This is such a simple gift to make.  It's also such a WOW!  Everyone I've made one for absolutely LOVE it!

     I made on for Mother's Day, at my May Stampin' Nite.  All the ladies who attended just loved this simple project.  Be sure to check back tomorrow to see that one.

Thank You treat bags

 
     I ♥ to create little gifts for everyone who attends my classes.  I don't do it every month, but it's always a surprise when I do.

    This month I made everyone who attended my monthly Stampin' Nite last night one of these super cute goodie bags.

     They are about 4 inches long and 2 inches wide.  They hold a snack size Hershey bar perfectly.  I got the idea from Stampin' Up!

MINI TUTORIAL:

4-1/2 X 6-1/2 Designer Series Paper

Score:
   on the long side: 1", 1-1/2", 2", 4", 4-1/2", & 5"
   on the short side - 1/2 (this will be across the bottom once you are done)

Scallop cut, using the rotary cutter, the top (the side not scored).

On the bottom (where you scored it a 1/2 inch),  cut it off from the edge, and the score lines 1" & 1-1/2".  Next cut from the other side through the score lines 5"& 4-1/2".  Then cut the tab at 4 inches at an angle on both sides.  SEE PHOTO BELOW

Mountain and valley fold the score lines to form the sides of the bag.  Adhere the flaps together.  Next add adhesive to the bottom tab, and fold up and adhere.

Embellish as you wish.

Reflection Technique

     The first time I saw the stamp set Lovely As A Tree, I knew I wanted to do some kind of reflection card.  This stamp set has been sitting on my shelf for a few years now, being used for various other cards and techniques, but never a reflection technique, until now.

MINI TUTORIAL

     It's not a hard technique.  To get the reflection to look like a reflection, first stamp on a clear block and use the stamped ink block as a stamp.  It lightens the ink as well as makes the image slightly fuzzy - much like a reflection.  Then use the Stamp-a-ma-jig to stamp the trees that are being reflected.  I used Basic Grey on my trees.

Faux Tile Technique

Sorry about the picture quality.  My camera had a mind of it's own the other day.

Oh, Pinterest, how I do love you!  You are so full of ideas.  I just can't get enough!

     Pinterest is where I found the Faux Tile Technique.  I CASEd this card from Stampin' Up! demonstrator, Kathleen Wingerson.  I just fell in love with this technique the minute I saw it.

MINI TUTORAL

     It's a simple technique.  All you do is stamp your images first.  Next you score your card stock (I used 2 inch increments) - going in two different directions.  Then make yourself a template so you can ink the bottoms of each square.  You decide on the intensity of the color.

     The other day, I saw the same technique done by Stampin' Up! demonstrator, LeeAnn Greff.  She did her card in browns.  It's so pretty!

Highlighting Technique

     I ♥ LOVE ♥ techniques!!!!  I love to find new ways to use all my Stampin' Up! products.  So what is a girl to do?  Get on the Internet, Pinterest, and blogs, and find new and exciting techniques to try.

Here's a new one for you to try: the Highlighting technique

     I found this technique from Gina K.  It's so simple to do and it's such a huge WOW!  Everyone loves it!

MINI TUTORIAL

Pick a light colored card stock.  Rub your Embossing Buddy over the entire piece of card stock.  Stamp your image in Versa Mark ink.  Use white or black embossing powder and heat emboss your images.

Use a marker or a Blender Pen and ink pad in a dark color than your card stock.  Color in the open areas of your embossed images.

**NOTE**  I used a Blender Pen and ink pad - this way I could control the intensity of the color inside my butterflies.

     I hope you give this technique a try.  It was so much fun to make this card.  Of course the picture does not do it justice.  It's so pretty in person!

Rainbow Stamp Block Technique

     Rose-Ellen Crane Eastman did a presentation at the Baltimore Regional last weekend.  Her presentation was WONDERFUL!!!!  I was so excited at what she showed us, that I immediately tried it when I got home, then designed a card for my Stampin' Nite this past Thursday evening.  Everyone LOVED it!

     What do you think?  Do you like it?  It was super simple to make.  So simple, I'll provide you with a mini tutorial to make one.

MINI TUTORIAL

     You must start with Very Vanilla card stock (trust me, Whisper White does not work).  You'll need a Stampin' Up! clear block that is larger than your card stock.  Using your markers, color your design, using the wide tip of the marker, on the clear block.  Using a Stampin' Spritzer filled with water, spray the the marker colored block, soaking it - yet not too much that all the color just runs off the block.  Turn the block over and place it on top of the Very Vanilla card stock and let the color and water soak in.  Remove the block and allow the card stock to dry.  Once dry, use Stazon to stamp on your rainbow background.

     While the ladies where doing their rainbow backgrounds, I grabbed several different stamp sets to let them choose (they love to be original and I love that they are original with their cards).  When I was pulling out stamps, I happened to pull out a new stamp that was delivered 15 minuted before my class started.  I pulled it out to mount it and went, "WOW! This would be gorgeous stamped on this rainbow background."  What do you think?

     I simply LOVE how these cards turned out.  I know I will be using this technique often.  Thank you

Mother of Pearl Swap Card

     This was my swap card for the Stampin' Up! Baltimore Regional event this past weekend.  I CASEd the idea for the focal point from a card I found on Pinterest, by Vicky Hayes.  I loved the look of the embossed framelit.

     The demonstrators at the regional event seemed to love this card.  When ladies saw it, they started to follow me to swap with me.  I had 50 of them swapped within 15 minutes.  I wished I had made more.  They went like hotcakes :O)

     The oval center was done using the Mother of Pearl technique.  It's so easy and has such a stunning look.

MINI TUTORIAL - How to create the Mother of Pearl look

You will need the following:

• a paper plate
• a piece of plastic wrap (from your kitchen)
• a paper towel
• stamp image of choice
• ink colors of choice (for background)
• Stazon ink
• Frost White Shimmer Paint
• Stamping Sponges
• Whisper White card stock

Procedure:

Place a small drop of Shimmer paint on the paper plate.  Dip a small piece of plastic wrap in the Frost White Shimmer paint and dab off on the paper plate.  On the Whisper White card stock, dab the plastic wrap, with the paint on it, all over the card stock - randomly - leave some white spaces.  Allow to dry.

Using ink colors of choice, and a Stamping Sponge, sponge the background, right over the Shimmer Paint.  Once done with sponging, use a paper towel and wipe the ink off of the Shimmer paint (it won't stick to the Shimmer Paint).

Ink up your stamp of choice, using Stazon ink, and stamp on top of your Mother of Peal background.

Two Tags Valentine Basket

     Isn't this basket just too cute?  I got the idea, and tutorial, for this basket from Dawn Griffith.  I got the idea, and tutorial, for the flower on the box from Brandy Cox.  Both these ladies are just wonderful Stampin' Up! demonstrators.

     The basket was made using the NEW Core-dinations paper from Stampin' Up!  I love how this Real  Red paper has a pink core when you sand it.  I can see myself using this paper for a lot of projects.

     I used one of the NEW soda pop tops for the center of the flower.  I used a large one.  The cool thing about these pop tops is that you can flatten them in your Big Shot.

MINI TUTORIAL

Open all the taps on your multi-purpose platform.  Place a clear plate down.  Put up your bottle caps in the middle of the plate, with the edges down.  Place another clear plate on top and run it through your Big Shot.  That simple!

TIP:  The 1 inch circle punch will fit inside the center of the large bottle cap and the 1/2 inch punch will fit inside the small bottle cap.

Chalkboard Technique Valentine's

     The chalkboard technique is all the rage right now.  It's so super simple to do too!

RECIPE:  Regal Rose & Basic Black card stock, Red & Sliver Glimmer Paper, Versa Mark & Whisper White craft inks, Delightful Dozen stamp set, Small Heart Punch, Framed Tulip embossing folder, white embossing powder, Big Shot, & Heat Tool

Mini Tutorial:

     Start with Basic Black card stock.  Stamp your focus image in Versa Mark ink and use white embossing powder and heat set it.  If you'd like other stamped images on your chalkboard, use Whisper White craft ink and stamp on your black paper.  Let the ink dry before you do the next step, or your image will smear.

     Take a piece of paper towel.  Dab the paper towel in the Whisper White craft ink, then rub all over your black card stock.  Do it as much as you like - to get the erased chalk board look you are looking for.

     To do the white lines around the edge, like I did in the card above, use the white Watercolor Pencil and draw you lines.  If you want it bright like your embossed image, leave it alone.  If you want it to have the slightly erased look, like in my card, use a Blender Pen and go over your pencil line.

I taught this technique in my Stampin' Nite class  and at a Private Card class earlier this month.  All the ladies I taught this technique to just LOVED it!

The fun thing about this technique is that you can use it for all occasions.  The possibilities are endless!

     I used the baby wipe technique to stamp the hearts.  It was such a fun way to customize my ink pad.

Mini Tutorial

You will need a baby wipe.  Fold it in half 2 times - it will be a square.  Put it on top of a napkin or paper towel and then put that on top of your silicone mat (or some other surface that ink can touch without damaging).  Next, take the re-inkers of your choice and place a few drops right on the baby wipe.  Make sure you put enough color on the baby wipe to cover the surface of your stamp.  Use the ink-filled baby wipe as your stamp pad.

Christmas is in the air

     It's now 1 month before Christmas and that means I can jump into the Christmas spirit.  I love to turn the radio on and hear all my favorite Christmas songs, (though I'm not excited to hear these fun songs before Thanksgiving).  Now that I'm in the Christmas mood, out come all my Christmas stamps and let the gift & card making begin!

     This is such a quick and simple card to make.  This card was made at a demonstrator meeting this month.  Lix Kuhns, our team leader, taught us how to make this card.  Oh, it's SO simple!

     When I got home, I ended up redoing the front, as I dropped the stamp with the steam  and got black ink where I didn't want it.  When I fixed my card, I added to it.  I used my Stamp-a-ma-jig and Versa Mark ink and stamped over the mug again, and covered it in Sugar & Spice scented embossing powder.  It added so much to this really cute card!  It smells so heavenly.

     Take a closer look at the mug.  Want to know how I used two colors without coloring the entire stamp using markers (yes, I used an ink pad)?  Check out my mini tutorial below.

MINI TUTORIAL

     Take the mug stamp and ink it with your color of choice.  Using a Blender Pen, remove the ink from the area where the liquid is.  You will need to swipe the stamp a few times and then scribble off the ink on scrap paper, until your Blender Pen is clear.  Keep doing this process until all the color is off of your stamp.  Using the color marker of your choice, color in the area you just cleaned off.  Huff, breath heavily over your stamp and stamp it.

     I got the idea for this card from Paper Crafts Magazine, November/December 2012 issue.  The tutorial used a different company's stamps, but I knew Stampin' Up!'s set, Gently Falling, would be perfect, and it is!

• Stamp the solid background leaves on a Post-It note or copy paper and cut out.  Do this all the leaves you want on your card.
• Use temporary adhesive and cover the edges of the backs of your cut out leaves and adhere the leaves where you want them on your card.
• Using rubbing alcohol (91% works best - dries quicker, but regular rubbing alcohol works fine), re-inkers, and a Stampin' Up! spray bottle, mix up your own color mists.  I used 5 colors on my card.
• Place the front of your card into an empty box and spray the front of your card with the color misters you made.
• You can use the Stampin' Up! heat tool, on low, to speed up the drying time.
• Once dry, remove the paper leaves you had adhered to your card.
• Using the line art stamps to match the leaves on your card, stamp on the white leaf spots.

So simple, and such a beautiful result!  It's so pretty in person!

     I first saw this idea on Dawn Griffith's blog, then my team leader demonstrated how to make it.  It's SO simple!  You also use all your ribbon scraps.  It's so pretty when you're done, and it makes the person who receives it smile.

MINI TUTORIAL

First punch your punch in the top layer.  Place that layer on top of your card and, with a pencil, trace your punched image.  Next coved that penciled punch with SNAIL adhesive, going outside your line just slightly.  Next lay your ribbon over your SNAIL adhesive in which ever direction you wish.  Place your layer on top and embellish.  That simple!

A New Way to Use Stampin' Up!s Framelits

     I simply ♥ LOVE ♥ Stampin' Up! Framelits!  They are so easy to use.  Not only that, but Stampin' Up! also has stamp sets that match their framelits.  How neat is that?  Did you see them all in the new 2012-13 Idea Book & Catalog AND the new 2012 Holiday Catalog?  There are so many that go together, I don't even know where to start!

     Aside from the basic stamp then cut out, here is another idea for using those wonderful framelits:

     What I did here, was use the negative cut of the the framelit as a template for coloring my background.  Cool, right?

MINI TUTORIAL:  How's it done:

First choose a framelit it use.  Place it in the middle of your card stock or Window Sheet (I used a window sheet).  Run it through your Big Shot.  Put the cut out aside, and use the negative cut out - this will be your template.  Using a Stamping Sponge and ink, "color" in the inside of your template.  Voila! Your beautiful background is complete (minus embellishing).
