Lamp Shade Stampin' Up! Style

I used to make paper lamp shades many years ago (long before I knew anything about Stampin' Up!). They were so much fun to make and everyone I gave them to just loved them.

While cleaning out my craft closest, I came across my pattern and thought I would be fun to make one using Stampin' Up! products.

What do you think?

This lamp and shade are so much more prettier in person. They are really simple to make. If you'd like to make one, let me know. If I have enough interest, I'd love to hold a class to make them.

My lampshade is sitting on a champagne flute. You can also use a wine class. I put one of those battery operated tealights. It's just beautiful!

Most of the time I do not come up with my own designs. I CASE, (Copy And Share Everything), a lot! I love someone else's idea and I remake it, making it my own. This is what Stampin' Up! is all about. I hope you CASE what I post here and make it your own. Just PLEASE remember the golden rule - always give credit where credit is due. As you will notice, I ALWAYS give credit when it's not my idea. Just think how you would feel if you designed something and someone else copied it and took all the credit for it.

Christmas Gift Stampin' Up! Style

For close friends this year, I wanted to make them a very useful and practical gift. When I saw these cute Post-It notes holders, I knew they were just the gift I was looking for.

These also make wonderful teacher, secretary, & house warming gifts.

Below are the ones I made this year. Under each picture I've stated the colors I used on that particular one. I will give the rest of the recipe at the end.

*NOTE* Even though I used all the same sized frames, they were not all sized the same. To ensure my paper wasn't too small, I cut each one separately - cutting them a little big to start. I would measure the actual frame and add 1/8". This usually worked - I didn't want my paper smaller than the frames. Sometimes I cut it down slightly and other times I did not. Each frame was different.

I hope this project is one you will find quick and easy to make. For me, it will end up boing one of those type of projects that I have a bunch made on hand for whenever I need a quick little gift.

Christmas Stocking

Of all the wonderful items in the Holiday Mini Catalog (which ends on January 3, 2012), the Stocking Builder Punch & the Stitched Stockings stamp set are my favorite. I've used both items so much this holiday season.

On top of the obvious ways to use this punch and stamp set, I've learned of a few other ways to use this set:

Here is a very small sample of what I did with this punch and stamp set.

This is a topper on a 1x8 cellophane bag full of M & M's.

These two cards are the same with the exception of the embossing folders used on the backgrounds.

*NOTE* We got word this week from Stampin' Up! that both the Stocking Builder Punch and the Stitched Stocking Stamp Set will be retiring on January 3rd, when the Holiday Mini Catalog retires. They will NOT be appearing in the new Idea Book & Catalog coming out in July 2012. So if you want either the punch, the stamp set, or both, please order them NOW! Stampin' Up! Holiday Center Piece

The minute I saw the Candy Cane Bouquet by Leigha Rock, I knew immediately I needed to purchase her tutorial and make the GORGEOUS center piece for my Christmas table. I also knew it would take time to make it, and indeed it did - an entire week (2-4 hours of work a night). I do say with confidence that it was worth all the hours I put into it.

My homemade Advent Calendars

When the Holiday Mini Catalog, (available to order from until January 3, 2012), came out, I looked right past the 25 & Counting stamp set - saying to myself, "Sandy, you just don't have time this year to make an Advent calendar. Don't get it and stress yourself out because you didn't have time to make one."

Well, last month, when I placed my monthly order, I ended ended up with enough Hostess Dollars to get it FREE! So I got it! When it arrived, I thought, no time, no time. Next year. That is when my upline chimed in and said, let's get together and make one. So I got all excited and got ready, but she had to cancel. So then my mom jumped in and said, "We WILL make them!"

We bought mini muffin tins to build our Advent calendars on. What do you think?

I took a class with Bonnie Fields, another demonstrator on the same team I'm on. I just loved this idea and HAD to know how to make it. I ♥ the Frostwood Lodge Designer Series Paper. I particularly love this pattern. The color combination of this is so perfect for the holidays.

This is such a cute way to present a gift card. We made this at my December Stampin' Nite class. All the ladies just loved this project. The ideas were just flowing all over the room.

This card was a lot of fun to make. The ladies did have some trouble with the shaker frames - they stuck to each other. But other than that, all the cards turned out gorgeous!

French Foliage Card

There are some Stampin' Up! colors that I would NEVER think to put together. The following card is a very good example of this:

Who would have thought that Elegant Eggplant, More Mustard, and Garden Green would look this lovely together? Definitely not me! This is such a rich and warm color combination. It makes a wonderful fall-themed card, as well as an inviting "you're in my thoughts" type of card.

I came across this cute little box on a couple of different blogs. The originator of this box is Brenda Quintana. Dawn Griffith also did a version of this box.

The minute I saw this little box, I immediately made 10 of them :O) I gave them to the ladies who attended a workshop I had a couple of weeks ago. The ladies LOVED them. They were so quick and easy to make. Pumping out 10 was no big deal.

Both Brenda and Dawn used DSP on the four sides of the box, but I used Whisper White card stock and stamped it - creating my own DSP.

YES you can!!!!! HOW????? Is what I'm sure you are asking yourself. Well, let me tell you!

MINI TUTORIAL: Stamped candles

Pick your candle (a white candle is the best). Here, I chose a tealight candle. I think these are really easy to do. Next, choose your stamp image. You will need white tissue paper. Stamp your image on the tissue paper. Either punch out or cut out what you want on your candle (here I used a circle punch and punched out the center of an ornament stamp. I placed the tissue paper on top of copy paper then punched it out. I did have a little tearing, but nothing major - I bet you can't tell by looking at my candle above :O). If you are using a tealight, use your 1/16" hand punch, and punch a tiny hole in the middle of your tissue image for the wick, and feed the wick through that little hole. Place the tissue paper on your candle. Using your heat tool, heat up the tissue paper and the candle. What you end up doing is melting the candle so the tissue paper embeds into the candle. I don't know how the candle will burn. I'm not sure it's a good idea to burn it, but if you try it, let me know how it works for you.

I bet you thought it would be so much harder than that! They are so pretty and they would make such a beautiful hostess gift for all those holiday parties you will go to!

Here is what the top of my gift looked like. I used the same ornament stamp and the corresponding ornament punch. I added some bling and a small tag, and voila! A beautiful gift!

Shaker Card Fun

I saw the shaker card in the Holiday Mini catalog and decided I really wanted to try one. I used the one in the catalog as my inspiration. Here is what I came up with:

I love everything about this card: the color combo, the stamps used, the Mica flakes used in the shaker. Just everything!

The shaker frames make making a shaker card SO easy! You have 6 sizes to choose from - all size sizes correspond with a circle punch. Just punch the same sized window sheet to place over top of your completed shaker, and voila! A beautiful shaker card!

Are you like me and love the look of layers? Have you ever wanted to try more than 3 layers but just aren't sure what size you should cut your paper in order for it to look nice?

Well, I have just the guide for you :O) The Proportional Matting Guide (not mine! I got the idea from Happy Little Crafter). The minute I saw it, I knew I HAD to share it. It takes all the guess work out of mat sizes for your standard A2 sized card (5-1/2 x 4-1/4).

Lace Ribbon Punch Fun

When I first saw this punch back in June (it was one of the pre-order items that demonstrators could order before anyone even saw the new items * Ask me about this if you want to get your hands on items before everyone else), I knew I'd love it, and boy do I love this punch!

NOTE: I did use some retired products on this note card

There are so many ways to use this punch, but I love to mix it up while using it, much like I did on the border of this note card. I had a lot of fun using this punch on this little note card I made. See below for a FREE mini tutorial on how I did the border on this card.

MINI TUTORIAL:

First I punched the border out of Designer Series Paper (DSP). Next I punched it again in the coordinating color card stock. I then cut out the center flowers of the coordinating card stock. I used a 2-Way Glue Pen to glue the flowers down on top of the DSP border. Last, I added large rhinestones to the middle of each flower for some bling.

Oh, how I love these colors together! I saw this card while making cards with my upline. She received it as a swap (either from Leadership or Convention - she didn't remember which). The card I saw was made using bright colors. I CASEd it 100% from what I saw. The design is beautiful! I wish I knew who to thank for the wonderful idea! Wrapped Nuggets & Matching Purse

Well, we prepared, bought water, batteries, & canned food, put everything away and tied down the trampoline. Hurricane Irene came through without too much fury - thank goodness. We didn't even loose our power or get any water in the house. We are so very lucky - as the river in the city and in the city where I work flooded and there are people who were directly affected by that. Me and my kids had the 1st day of school off today, but other than that, it was just a wet and mildly windy Saturday night and most of the day Sunday. The sun came out in enough time to set yesterday - and it was beautiful!

Today's project is a cute chocolate nugget purse and matching wrapped nugget. There are really cute and super quick and easy to make! Below the recipe is a mini tutorial for you! Enjoy!

I CASEd this idea from Mary Fish and Nancy Riley. These talented Stampin' Up! demonstrators graciously shared their ideas and I took that idea and came up with the above!

RECIPE:

CARD STOCK: Concord Crush, Whisper White, & Designer Series Paper in Concord Crush

STAMPS: It's a Wrap

INK: Concord Crush

TOOLS: 1/4" grosgrain ribbon (Whisper White), paper trimmer with scoring tool (or the *NEW* Simply Scored scoring board coming out in September), bone folder, sticky strip, SNAIL adhesive, paper piercing tool, a brad of choice (I used a rhinestone brad), small punches of choice (I used Boho Blossoms & the flower punch from the Punch Pack), and chocolate nuggets (I used Hershey's)

MINI TUTORIAL:

PURSE:
Core Color Card Stock - 1-1/2" x 4-1/2"
Designer Series Paper - 1-1/4" x 4-1/4"
~Adhere the DSP to the core color card stock.
~Score: 1-3/16", 2-3/16", 3-1/2", & 3-3/4"
~Add Sticky Strip to 1/4" wide area (between 3-1/2" & 3-3/4")
~Adhere 5" of ribbon to Sticky Strip (assuring your ribbon isn't twisted)
~Fold to purse shape and use a little SNAIL to close the flap.
~Using a Paper Piercer (or 3/16" hole punch), create a hole through the front of purse.
~Add punched flowers & brad (or any decoration of choice) to "close" purse.

CHOCOLATE NUGGET:
2 choices:
~Wrap chocolate nugget in 1" x 3" of DSP
~Use "It's a Wrap" stamp set - stamp onto 1" x 3" piece of Whisper White card stock. Adhere to nugget.

First off, I apologize for not posting too much this summer and most of the month of August. I had a very busy summer with my family - fun, relaxing, and full of travel. Last week, I took my boys to Washington, DC. If you know me, you know that is HUGE for me! I HATE cities (and DC is no exception) and I'm terrified to drive in cities. I drove, by myself, my boys and me, from Allentown, PA to Arlington, VA, where we met up with my dad for 2 full days of DC fun. The Lincoln Memorial was their favorite place (and unfortunately, it was the last stop on day #1 and by the time we got there, my camera battery died, so I don't have pictures of my boys there :O(

This week, I went back to work :O( But the school must start - MAYBE???? Hurricane Irene might have a say on Monday's Back-to-School plans. Time will tell.

So you say your stamps won't stick to your clear blocks

Stampin' Up! Acrylic Blocks for clear-mount stamps

I have had many people tell me that their clear-mount stamps don't stay on their blocks. They are always asking me how to keep the stamps on the blocks.

Well, I have a list of some reasons why the stamps might not be "sticking" to the blocks. This list was found on a demo-only site, Stampin' Connection. I thought it would be a HUGE help to all of you who are becoming frustrated with this problem.

WHY WON'T MY STAMPS STICK TO THE CLEAR BLOCKS?

1. They are too cold - They work better if they are slightly warm. Rub your hands together and then hold the block in your hands for a few seconds. If your hands are especially sweaty or dirty, wipe them clean before adhering. (See #2)

2. They are too dirty - Keep your blocks clean. Any dirt, oils, residue, ink, etc. will keep the stamps from adhering correctly. Wash them with warm soapy water and dry with a lint-free cloth just before you start your project.

3. They are too dusty - If you store your blocks on your desk or out on the counter, the dust will stick to them and keep the stamp from clinging. Wipe them off with a lint-free cloth before you try to adhere the stamp to them.

4. They are too comfy - Make sure you are adhering the blocks on a hard surface. If you stamp on a foam sheet or stamping pad, make sure you move it out of the way and adhere the stamps using a hard surface so that you have plenty of pressure.

5. They are too eager - Or maybe you are! :) Timing is everything in life and adhering acrylic blocks to stamps is no exception. Place your stamp, rubber side down (on a hard surface) and press the clear block onto the cling back of the stamp. Hold down with even pressure for 20-30 seconds. It needs a bit of time to get all the air out from between the stamp and the block.

6. They are too boring - They need a little extra spark. Provide that by rubbing on your pants or sleeve to add a little spark of static cling. That also helps solve the problem of being too cold as well.

7. They are too labeled - Many stampers choose not to adhere the label to the clear-mount stamp. The foam sticks better to the stamps without it. Or you can trim the labels down and have a larger area around the stamp to stick to the block.

I hope this list helps you find a solution for your acrylic block problem. I've found that if I wash my block with dish soap, let them air dry, and use a lint-free cloth, my stamps stick without any problem.

With all the traveling I've been doing since school's been out, I haven't had as much time as I would like to actually play with this set and punch. Yet, I did get out and make this card:

Embossing Resist Card #2

Ten days ago, I posted a card I made using the Embossing Resist technique. You can see that post HERE.

Well, I love the techniques so much, I used it on my June team swap. Here is the card I made for the swap:

I'm so happy with how this card turned out. I used the color coach to select the colors on this card. I could not live without my color coach. If you don't have one, check it out - you'll see why I love it so much.

I posted a mini tutorial on my first post on how to do the Embossing Resist technique, but I'll re-post it here for you :O)

MINI TUTORIAL: Embossing Resist

Rub your paper surface using the Embossing Buddy, Ink your stamp with Versa Mark ink and stamp. Using clear embossing powder, be sure to cover the entire stamped image. Tap off the excess embossing powder. Using the heat tool, heat the embossing powder until it melts into a shiny surface. Ink up a Stamping Sponge and rub the ink over the embossed image. You can use one color or multiple colors like I did on my card above.

Happy Birthday Card

The annual Stampin' Up! convention is going on right now in Salt Lake City, Ut. I'm so bummed to not be there - I've been watching some live feed from demos who are there - and the energy - oh how I wish I could be there. BUT... I'm in Cape Cod with my family, which is so nice and beautiful - cool (76 degrees as compared to 94 degrees at home), and I'm with my family - a nice break is much appreciated.

To help lift my spirits about not being at the convention, I've decided to post to my blog, while my husband and boys visit the beach (sounds like fun, but it's cool and windy and I am cold, so I opted to stay home this trip). I was looking though my camera and found TONS of pictures I have yet to post (I guess I've been busy or something :O)

I found this *fun* birthday card I made for my husband:

I saw the candle idea on the demo-only site, Stampin' Connection, by several different demos, so I'm not sure who to give credit to. The flame is done using the Build a Blossom stamp set - stamping the smallest petal and punching it upside-down. I inked it using Cherry Cobbler craft ink and heat embossed it using clear embossing powder. I think this gives it a better illusion of a real flame. What do you think?

Because my husband's age was too much to put that many candles on his card, I got creative and used numbers to indicate his age. I really like how it turned out. What do you think?

Embossing Resist Card

Here is another thank you card I made for a co-worker at the end of the school year:

I used the embossing resist technique. It's such an easy technique and it leaves you with such a beautiful look.

I made each of my team members a thank you card for the wonderful birthday celebration they gave me a few weeks ago, and for making me feel so welcome on their team. This was the first time I've ever celebrated my birthday in school (my birthday is early August - so we aren't in school for my birthday).

This is one of 7 different cards I made. This card was so simple and so quick to make (10 minutes tops!), yet it is so very elegant. It would look great in any color. I was trying to use up my stash of retired card stock, as it seems like I have a HUGE supply of it.

Here is another card I made for a team member at work. This idea came from Heather Summers. I CASEd her card for this one. The minute I saw her card, I knew it would be perfect for the person we were giving it to.

I used Crystal Effects on top of the clear envelope to make it look like the mug is "sweating".

Happy Birthday Laptop Card

This year I was lucky enough to work with a wonderful team of teachers. This team celebrates everyone's birthday with a card signed by all the team members and cake/cupcakes/brownies - anything good. Back in February, during a long stretch of snow days, no one could get out to buy a team member a card, so I volunteered to make one (heck I was stuck at home and just looking for a good reason to not have to shovel snow). Well, the minute everyone saw that card, they all decided I should make all the team birthday cards, which I eagerly said yes to doing.

Now, when I make a card for someone I know, I tend to give it a lot of thought and make a card to fit that person. The card below is no exception to that.

Yes, this looks like an Apple MacBook laptop computer. Before you email me and tell me the apple is upside down, it is not. For those of you who do not have an Apple laptop, the apple is upside down when the lid is closed, so that it's right-side up when the lid is open. Smart, huh?

The recipient of this card used to be a teacher in our district's technology department before the district eliminated those positions.

I made the inside to look like a Word document that says, "Happy Birthday". Everyone signed on the white part.

I went to the Apple website and found a laptop keyboard that wasn't black. Our laptops are all black, but I knew that if I put a black keyboard on this card you wouldn't be able to see it. You can even see the power button above the keyboard.

The track pad on this card is the same proportion as the trackpad on our laptops. I used dimensionals to make the button part of the tack pad raised a little, like the ones on our laptops.

I also included the camera that is found just above the screen - I couldn't leave that little guy out.

Needless to say this card was a huge hit! The recipient just loved this card, as I knew he would.

I need to thank Lynn Pratt for this wonderful idea and tutorial. I purchased her "Briefcase & Cards" tutorial in order to make this card. Only her computer was a Dell, and I needed mine to be an Apple. I used her idea and just changed what needed to be changed to make mine an Apple.

I 100% CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) this card from LeeAnn Greff. Hey, when I see a card I love, how can I not CASE it? On top of that, the minute I saw this card, it screamed my dad's name.

This card is so easy to make. All it is is a few cuts on either side, and few score lines and you just fold. That simple!

Father's Day card #1

Happy Father's Day!

This is the Father's Day card I made for my husband. My oldest stamped "Thanks a Million" from the stamp set Word Play then wrote, "for being the best Daddy". This picture just does not do the card justice.

I did use brads & faux metal on this card that are NOT Stampin' Up!, but other than that, all materials are Stampin' Up! products.

FREE TUTORIAL:

To get the faux metal, I used Faux Metal Peel & Stick by Duck. I found it at Lowes (shhhh!). I cut a piece slightly larger than I wanted my final size to be. I then stuck it to a piece of scrap card stock and cut to the size I wanted. I then used a Stampin' UP! Sizzix embossing folder and ran it through the Big Shot. The effect is gorgeous!

Dessert Night is this Monday. For the card we are making this month, I opted to use one of my favorite retiring sets, Tart & Tangy.

Osi, the Bearded Dragon

What is a Bearded Dragon you ask? Well, take a look:

A Bearded Dragon is a lizard.

Osi belongs to Jaime, a teacher I work with. Her birthday was this past Wednesday. At school, I've been elected to make all the cards for everyone's birthday (just everyone on our team, which is 10 of us). So when Jaime's birthday came up, I knew I HAD to put Osi on her card.

Here is my version of Osi:

Heather Summer's is the most talented lady. She is the one who came up with the lizard punch art I used to make Osi. Thank you Heather for this GREAT punch art that I was able to use to make this wonderful card! What do you think?

Thanks So Much! #3

Preschool Thank you card #3;

This is another card that came about because of something sitting on my desk. The Very Vanilla piece that is embossed was something I had done for another project that I didn't end up using. I will share a mini tutorial on how to color in your dry embossed image.

MINI TUTORIAL:

Start off by dry embossing your card stock, (here I used the Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder). Next you will need Blender Pens and Classic Ink Pads in your colors of choice. While the ink pad is still closed, squeeze the lid of the ink pad against the ink pad itself. This will put ink on the inside of the lid. Using a Blender Pen, pick up the ink from the lid and color in the raised parts of your embossing. Don't color like you are using a colored pencil or crayon. Color lightly. If you want it darker, do the color in layers, allowing the layers to dry in between each layer.

I hope you give this technique a try. As you can see, it gives you a beautiful look.

Preschool thank you card #2:

I'm so happy with this card. I just started putting things together and voila, this gorgeous card! I rarely design my own cards, but this one is all mine :O) It was so popular in my house, that my oldest son asked me to make this card for his teacher too. And yes, she ♥ LOVED ♥ it!

This card came about from a scrap piece of paper - the Crumb Cake on this card - and my desire to use the new embossing folder, Flower Garden embossing folder. Plus, I already had the Thanks square already stamped and cut out, (as left over from a previous thank you card I made).

On the card above, I used Pacific Point & Night of Navy markers on the So Many Thanks stamp set.

On the card below, I used Bravo Burgundy & Blushing Bride markers on the So Many Thanks stamp set. I also use Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint made into a shimmer mist and sprayed it on the Crumb Cake card stock.

My youngest "graduated" from preschool last week. He had amazing teachers and extended card teachers this year. We got them some lovely flowers for their gardens. Along with the beautiful flowers, I made each of them a different card.
